They certainly kicked off the post Draft RAW era with a bang as CM Punk cashed in on his Money in the Bank winnings from Wrestlemania in defeating Edge to win the World Heavyweight title.

Edge had come out to shoo away Jim Ross who was giving a RAW farewell speech. After cutting a promo, Edge walked to the back but was met by Batista who gave Edge a beating for a few minutes that concluded with a Batista bomb. As the camera followed Batista up the ramp, Punk's music hit and within minutes, he was in the ring with a referee waiting for the bell to ring.

If you saw it live or watched it on replay, Punk's emotion in trying to start the match was off the charts. Ref Mike Chioda and Lillian Garcia played it up perfectly with Chioda having to explain what was happening as Garcia made the full announcement of what was going on. What took 20 seconds seems to take an eternity as Punk was demonstrating by attempting to get them to hurry it up. Fantastic theatre and so well done by all involved.

Punk hit the GTS and covered Edge for his first real World title reign in WWE, later successfully defending the gold against JBL in the main event...a match we all expected Punk to lose.

For at least one week, CM Punk is on top of the world...and there isn't a guy that deserves it more.
