The WWE had its second straight ppv with a surprising return as former champion Big Show (Paul Wight) made his comeback at Sunday's No Way Out, opening up an angle with boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. that seems destined for Wrestlemania headlines.
Big Show made his way into a WWE ring for the first time since December 2006, doing a run-in following WWE Champion Edge's win over Rey Mysterio (see below). Show teased a babyface turn and then went heel by threatening to attack Mysterio. He then taunted Mayweather at ringside which prompted Mayweather to enter the ring. After some taunting and shoving in the ring, Mayweather landed three punches on Show that bloodied him. The boxing champ left the ring and Show was about t
o give chase but was held up by Shane McMahon. Show was talking about taking up boxing as a career after leaving WWE, so some sort of celeb vs. wrestler attraction for Wrestlemania seems imminent. It'll be interesting to see how much play this gets on ESPN and other major sports media outlets.
-John Cena defeated WWE Champion Randy Orton by dq. Orton punched the ref out to take the loss. It was a hot crowd that swung back and forth, but they didn't get the ultimate result they were looking for. Not much more to say, but we could be looking at a three-way for the title at Wrestlemania as I don't see Orton losing the belt on free tv.
-Triple-H won the RAW Elimination Chamber match to earn a WWE Championship shot at Wrestlemania. In a result that surprised no one, The Game won a 25-minute match by pinning Jeff Hardy following a Pedigree on a chair to earn the title shot. En route, HHH pinned Shawn Michaels, who juiced heavily. Hardy pinned Jericho, who had eliminated JBL and Umaga earlier in the match. As it stands tonight, it will be Randy Orton vs. HHH to headline Wrestlemania, but many expect Cena to be involved in some form or fashion. Early on, the crowd was a bit dead for the match which was surprising considering the star power in the match.
-The Undertaker won the Smackdown Elimination Chamber match to earn a World title shot at Wrestlemania. 'Taker pinned Batista following a tombstone piledriver to get the shot, eliminating Big Daddy V, Great Khali and Finlay. MVP was pinned by Finlay, while Batista eliminated no one. The match was said to be pretty bad overall even with most of the lackluster workers (V, Khali) eliminated early. Both 'Taker and Batista bled. Speaking of Batista, what the hell is he doing for 'Mania? A match with Mark Henry?
-World Champion Edge pinned Rey Mysterio to retain the title. It was a short match due to Mysterio's bicep injury he suffered this past week. Not much to say here, but Edge needs some miracle heat in the next month to garner any interest in a title match at Mania with 'Taker.
-ECW Champion Chavo Guerrero pinned CM Punk following a frog splash to open the show. Chavo as champ? Zzzzzzzzzzzz.
-Ric Flair defeated Mr. Kennedy via figure four to keep his career alive. Anyone else bored with this angle yet?
