I thought this was a hilarious entry by the Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer today, discussing the changes WWE talent will have to make since they are now in HD. I'm paraphrasing from his entry today on his site:

--The talent was told to think in terms of fans only being 3-to-5 feet away from you, hence no more verbal communications of spots in the ring. I would imagine this would be tough as some guys use this as a way to work, specifically HHH and Ric Flair. My hope is this doesn't lead to matches so structured that they become more bland than they are. More rest holds anyone?

-The funniest part: no spray-on tans that can run. Apparently, Shawn Michaels and Mr. Kennedy are some major violators of this. This is almost too much for words. On a serious note though, how easy do you think "backne" (back acne) caused by steroid use will be to pick up? I mean, make-up would be pretty easy to see, so I would guess this would a concern. How sad is that?

-The in-ring style needs to be "stiffened up," meaning it needs to look more real. I think it is a very good thing. If they would loosen up the damn string a bit and let the guys actually wrestle how they want, that'd be fine with me too. Enough rest holds!!!!

This is going to be a very interesting transition as guys basically rework their working style to fit a style of tv production. It seems strange, but moving to HD is something they had to do. I think it'll affect more of the look (tan, makeup, backne) than the in-ring product, but time will tell.

If I only had an HD TV...stupid rabbit ears!
